Etagere with natural copper roof
The piece of furniture pictured is a three-shelf etagere with scalloped copper foil roof. The design intent for this piece is to make it as light as possible whilst still being able to function as a piece of furniture. Accordingly, the frame is made of thin sections of poplar, the shelves are carbon-fibre reinforced resin and the galleries around each shelf are made from thin sections of bamboo.

The copper roof is made of 0.1mm copper foil shaped on a template to give a scalloped effect. The gallery on top of the roof is influenced by the Secession school of design and is composed of copper tube and wire. The whole piece weighs less than 1 kg and is either free-standing or wall-mounted.

For the roof, the options are bright metal (as shown) or patinated, with a blue-green effect. The shelves may be made in opaque black resin or clear resin with a visible (and hopefully decorative) carbon rod framework
