Repairing a Windsor chair – removal, replacement, refitting, recolouring

Most Windsor chairs are fairly easy to repair. This is one owned by the National Trust which had a couple of spindles broken by an over-energetic visitor. The picture shows nearly all of the upper work removed and a replacement spindle just off the lathe.

This photo shows all the new spindles made, together with a couple of the old spindles, just before cutting to length and refitting

All new spindles fitted and chair re-assembled

Chair re-stained to match and returned to owner!
